In the last week of July, eight more cases of swine flu were recorded in Nashik City, bringing the total number of swine flu cases in the city since January to 25. According to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) health department authorities there were no swine flu cases by May 31 of this year. However, there were two cases reported in June and 23 cases in July.

Currently, five swine flu patients are still receiving care in private hospitals while all the other patients have recovered completely. No swine flu-related fatalities have been documented so far.

The NMC health authorities stated that climate change is a significant factor in the increase in swine flu incidences. Owing to the non-stop rain and cold climate for the last three weeks, the cases of swine flu have risen in July.

The authorities have urged the public to seek medical attention right away if they experience a fever or cold rather than turning to self-medication. Also as a preventive measure, the NMC has advised people to refrain from shaking hands and entering crowded spaces. (Times of India, Aug 3, 2022)
